    New Mexico general contractor license

    New Mexico has two different types of licenses: GB-2 Residential Contractor and GB-98 Commercial Contractor.

     

    The GB-2 Residential Contractor license allows for residential work. The GB-98 Commercial Contractor allows for residential and commercial work. To get the GB-98 Commercial Contractor license, applicants must also pass the GB-2 Residential Contractor exam even if they do not wish to do residential work.

     

    In New Mexico, a license is required for any job, regardless of size.

    New Mexico GB-2 and GB-98 Contractor

    The New Mexico GB-98 license allows the builder to bid on, build, or modify commercial and residential structures. To get the GB-98 license, the applicant must also take the GB-2 trades exam even if they do not wish to do residential work. If you already held the GB-2 license, you do not need to take the GB-2 exam again.

    There are three required exams: the GB-98 Commercial trades exam, the GB-2 Residential Trades exam, and the New Mexico Business Law exam.

    New Mexico GB-2 Residential Contractor

    The New Mexico GB-2 license allows for residential construction from the ground up, as well as remodeling existing residential properties.

    There are two required exams: the GB-2 Residential Trades exam and the New Mexico Business Law exam.

    New Mexico GB-98 Commercial Contractor

    The New Mexico GB-98 license allows the builder to bid on, build, or modify commercial and residential structures. If you've already held a GB-2 license or have already taken the GB-2 exam, use this course. If you haven't taken the GB-2 exam, please use the option for the GB-2 & GB-98 combined.

    There are two required exams: the GB-98 Commercial trades exam and the New Mexico Business Law exam.

    This exam is required for all contractor's licenses. The New Mexico Business & Law exam is a short 130 minute exam covering information in only 1 book.
