* A license is required when the total cost or contract amount is $25,000 or more.
Monetary limits for each license as follows:
* 10 times working capital OR 10 times net worth – whichever is LESS
* If the requested monetary limit is $3,000,000 or less, a reviewed financial statement is required.
* If the requested monetary limit is greater than $3,000,000 an audited financial statement is required.
Tennessee BC-b (Small Commercial Classification) is limited to a maximum monetary limit of $1,500,000.00 per a project.
This Monetary Max Limit is not Restricted on the Tennessee BC-A (Residential Classification) If you are needing an Unlimited Residential and Commercial License

Tennessee has established reciprocity as follows - AL (BC-B, BC-A), AR (All licenses), GA (BC-B), LA (All licenses), MS (Unlimited), NC (BC-A, BC-B, BC-A,B), SC (All commercial licenses), NASCLA (BC-B). Tennessee Reciprocity
Permitted Work
This license covers everything in the BC-A Residential Contractor and the BC-b Small Commercial license. Residential building contractors are those whose services are limited to construction, remodeling, repair or improvement of 1,2,3, or 4 family unit residences under four stories in height.
A small commercial building contractor is authorized to bid on and contract for the construction, erection, alteration, repair or demolition of any building or structure for use and occupancy by the general public, including residential construction with more than 4 units, and greater than 3 stories in height with a monetary limit of $1,500,000. This limit was increased April 2017.
