* A license is required when the total cost or contract amount is $25,000 or more.

Monetary limits: 10 times working capital OR 10 times net worth – whichever is LESS.

* For limits up to $3,000,000, a reviewed financial statement is required.

* For limits greater than $3,000,000, an audited financial statement is required.

* All requirements must be met (exams, financials, experience, etc.).

Reciprocity with AL, AR, GA, LA, MS, NC, SC, NASCLA for various license types. Tennessee Reciprocity

If you choose to take the NASCLA exam instead, it serves as your trades exam in 15 states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and others.

Tennessee BC-B Commercial Contractor Permitted Work

A commercial building contractor can bid on and contract for construction, erection, alteration, repair, or demolition of buildings for public use, including residential buildings with over four units or more than three stories.

The commercial building contractor may also perform any of the 34 building subcategories for "commercial."
