Requirements for Obtaining Your VA Contractor License:
Eligibility for a contractor's license is based on the applicant's knowledge, skills, abilities, financial position, and other entry requirements.The class of a license determines what, if any, monetary restrictions are placed on the size of contracts or projects you may perform. A Class C license is restricted to contracts/projects that are less than $10,000, with the total amount of all contracts/projects performed in a twelve month period remaining below $150,000. A Class B license is restricted to contracts/projects that are less than $120,000, with the total amount of all contracts/projects performed in a twelve month period remaining below $750,000. There are no monetary restrictions for Class A licenses.

Fees: The application fee for a new prime Virginia contractor's license is $385 for a Class A, $370 for a Class B, and $235 for a Class C.8 hour pre-license course must be taken along with the Virginia Business Law before Application is submitted for the Specialty exam.

Reciprocity
Virginia has established reciprocity with Louisiana. You must hold a commercial license with a classification of "building construction" and have obtained the license by examination in order to qualify.
The NASCLA exam serves as your trades exam in Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, U.S. Virgin Islands, West Virginia

With this license you may bid on and build all types of commercial buildings in VA. Residential work is not permitted with this license.
