International Code Council – Journeyman, 2017 NEC

G17 Exam Prep: Field-Ready to Exam-Ready

You've put in the hours. The G17 is a different skill set than the field. MCL prep bridges that gap by connecting what you already know to how the exam tests it. Pass it and you work independently, earn more, and choose your own jobs.

Is This Your Exam?

G17

The G17 runs on the 2017 NEC and is the Journeyman-level ICC electrical exam. Check the jurisdiction guide to confirm whether your city or county requires it and which exam code they use locally. Use Our Jurisdiction Guide →.

Why Journeyman-Level Is Different

You know the work. The G17 tests something different – 80-100 questions in 4 hours, under pressure, with a codebook. MCL prep is built around that reality, not a classroom.

Licensed Journeymen out-earn apprentices by 1$25,000 or more per year on average. The G17 isn’t just a license. It’s a raise!

What You Need to Know

Is the G17 exam open book?

Yes. ICC's Contractor/Trades exams are open book. You can bring approved references into the exam. The official ICC exam catalog lists which references are approved for the G17 specifically. Knowing your way around that codebook fast is the difference between passing and running out of time.

What happens if I don't pass?

Complete the MCL program, take the exam, and if you don't pass, we'll refund more than you paid — 110% of your prep course purchase. No other ICC exam prep in the market makes that promise. See full guarantee terms →

How long do I have access to the course?

365 days from your purchase date, giving you a full year to study at your pace and around your schedule.

I’m working full time. How do I fit this in?

MCL is built for working electricians. Audio tracks, mobile access, and self-paced lessons mean you can study on the drive, between jobs, or on the weekend. You don't have to stop working to get ready.
