Tennessee Contractor Licensing Exams Have Moved to ProV

If you are working toward your Tennessee contractor's license, there is an important change you should be aware of before you schedule your exam.

Starting July 1st, 2026, Tennessee has officially transitioned all contractor licensing exams from PSI testing centers to ProV. This affects anyone who has not yet scheduled their exam, and it applies to all Tennessee contractor exam classifications, not just the ones we cover.

What changed, and why does it matter?

The switch from PSI to ProV is more than just a change of venue. ProV has updated the required reference book lists for several contractor exams, adding titles that were not previously part of the exam. If you purchase your study materials or book set without knowing this, you could show up to your exam missing required references.

Does this affect you if you already scheduled with PSI?

No. If you have an existing appointment booked through PSI, your exam is not affected. You can keep your scheduled date and test as planned.

What if you have not scheduled yet?

You will need to book your exam directly through ProV. One thing worth knowing: just like before, you take the exam before applying for your license, so no pre-approval is required to schedule. You can book your seat whenever you are ready.

Schedule your exam at ProV here.

Where to get the details

The official Tennessee exam information and the updated ProV Candidate Bulletin have everything you need, including required books, scheduling instructions, and what to expect on exam day.
