    Mississippi Residential Builder Requirements & Application

    • Required for residential construction over $50,000. For residential remodeling or roofing over $10,000, a separate Residential Remodeling or Roofing license is required.
    • Proof of general liability insurance coverage is required, with no minimum policy amount.
    • Residential contractors may work on commercial projects up to 7,500 sq. ft.
    • Pre-approval from the state is required for this exam. Financial statements are not required.
    • Applicants must list three completed jobs in the requested classification of work.

    Mississippi Residential Builder License Reciprocity

    Mississippi offers reciprocity for residential licenses with Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Tennessee. Licensees who have held a license in one of these states for three consecutive years may have the trade exam waived. However, the Mississippi Business Law and Project Management exam is still required.

    Mississippi Residential Builder License Permitted Work

    This license permits residential project bidding and construction within Mississippi. License holders may also work on commercial projects up to 7,500 square feet.
