Mississippi Contractors Exams and Licenses

Mississippi offers two primary contractor licenses: Residential Builder and Building Construction. Both licenses allow full residential work, but only the Building Construction license allows for commercial projects.

All contractors performing work on any commercial job over $50,000, new residential construction over $50,000, and residential remodeling or additions over $10,000 are required to have a license.

This license allows builders to work on both residential and commercial projects of any size.

Mississippi Residential Builder

This license is for residential construction projects, including building new homes and remodeling. It also allows work on commercial projects up to 7,500 sq. ft.

Mississippi Business Law

Mississippi Business & Law

This exam is mandatory for all contractor licenses and covers essential business and legal practices. It’s a short, two-hour exam.

If you plan to work in multiple states, the NASCLA exam is recognized in many states, making it a more versatile option.
