Oklahoma

Limited Electrical Contractor

This license is for individuals not performing hands-on work but operating firms or managing jobs. Requirements:


  • Degree in Electrical Engineering + 8,000 hours of commercial/industrial experience
  • OR 16,000 hours in electrical trade (work, estimating, project management)
  • Must be an Owner, Partner, or Officer after licensing

Unlimited Electrical Contractor

Allows full-scale electrical contracting in commercial/industrial settings. Requirements:


  • 12,000 hours of on-the-job experience under licensed electrical contractor
  • 4,000 hours as a licensed unlimited journeyman (2 years)
  • 6,000 hours in commercial/industrial work
  • Up to 2,000 hours may come from formal education
  • Must be an Owner, Partner, or Officer after licensing

Unlimited Electrical Journeyman

Allows work in all areas of electrical construction. Requirements:


  • 8,000 hours under a licensed contractor while registered as an apprentice
  • 4,000 hours in commercial/industrial work
  • 2,000 hours may be from formal education

Residential Electrical Contractor

Limited to wiring one- and two-family dwellings. Requirements:


  • 8,000 hours in residential electrical construction work
  • 4,000 hours as a residential/unlimited journeyman
  • 4,000 hours as a registered apprentice OR 3,000 apprentice + 1,000 education hours
  • Must be an Owner, Partner, or Officer

Residential Electrical Journeyman

Limited to residential wiring. Requirements:


  • 4,000 hours under a licensed contractor while registered as an apprentice
  • 1,000 hours may be satisfied by formal education
