Georgia General Contractor License (NASCLA)

with the unlimited designation is permitted to do any type of construction work and to bid on any type of contracts. The exam for this license is the NASCLA which is accepted in multiple states. The trades exam in accepted in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, U.S. Virgin Islands, and West Virginia. One test, covers 16 states!

Georgia General Contractor State Requirements & Application

  • Any prime contractor or subcontractor working on projects where the cost of labor and materials exceeds $2,500 is required to have the appropriate license.
  • Only the General Contractor license has a minimum net worth requirement. The minimum net worth for a GC unlimited is $150,000, and for a GC Limited Tier, the minimum net worth is $25,000. The limited tier license is for contracts of $1,000,000 or less.
  • The General Contractor must have at least $500,000 worth of general liability insurance.
  • Must have at least four years of proven active experience, or a four-year degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management.

Fees: The application fee for a new prime contractor license is $300. The renewal fee is $200. The application fee for a subcontractor is $150.

Veteran Preference: Veterans who served during wartime or who have a permanent disability may qualify for up to 10 Veteran Preference points. Contact the board to see if you qualify.

Specialty Contractors: Certain specialty contractors do not need a license. This document lists specialties that do not require a license.
