Louisiana Commercial General Contractor Requirements & Application

The LSLBC regulates commercial, industrial, and residential contractors who bid or perform construction projects with the following values:

  • $50,000 or more for commercial and industrial construction
  • In excess of $75,000 for residential construction
  • In excess of $10,000 for mechanical, electrical, or plumbing
  • Exceeding $7,500 but not in excess of $75,000 for home improvement
  • $1 or more for mold remediation

Financial requirements: You must have a financial statement with a minimum net worth of $10,000, a $10,000 bank line of credit, or a $10,000 surety bond.

No insurance is required for commercial applications. The NASCLA exam can be used for commercial licensing in Louisiana. Upon obtaining a commercial license, you can apply for a residential license, which will be granted based on holding the commercial license.

No experience requirements for the commercial applicant.

NASCLA Commercial Exam Reciprocity

The NASCLA exam serves as the trades exam in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, U.S. Virgin Islands, and West Virginia.

Louisiana NASCLA Commercial Exam Permitted Work

With this license, you may bid on and build all types of buildings in Louisiana. For a residential license, submit a residential application after completing your commercial license, and a residential license will be granted based on holding the commercial license.
