    North Carolina Builder Exam Requirements & Application

    License Types:

    • Limited: Financial limit per project is $500,000; requires assets exceeding liabilities by $17,000 or a minimum net worth of $80,000 with audited financials.
    • Intermediate: Financial limit per project is $1,000,000; requires assets exceeding liabilities by $75,000 with audited financials.
    • Unlimited: No limit on project size; requires assets exceeding liabilities by $150,000 with audited financials.

    Experience Requirements

    • All applicants must submit three (3) Letters of Reference demonstrating character, competence, ability, and integrity.
    • Reference letters must be on business letterhead or notarized, excluding family or interrelated companies, and dated within 12 months of application receipt.
    • Incomplete applications lacking required references will be returned.
