    Mississippi Commercial General Contractor Requirements & Application

    • Licensure is required for commercial projects over $100,000 or public projects over $50,000.
    • Pre-approval from the state is required to sit for the exam.
    • The Mississippi Business and Law exam must also be passed.
    • Submit CPA-reviewed financial statements to document sufficient net worth and proof of required workers' compensation insurance.
    • Provide a Certificate of General Liability insurance showing minimum coverage of $300,000 per occurrence and $600,000 aggregate.
    • Show experience in the requested classification of work, listing three completed jobs.
    • Submit a reviewed or audited financial statement from a certified public accountant, completed within the last 12 months. Major classifications require a minimum net worth of $50,000.

    Mississippi Builders License Reciprocity

    Mississippi has established reciprocity with Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, South Carolina, and Tennessee for licenses held for at least three years. This does not apply to NASCLA, and the state Business Law exam is required.

    With this license, you may bid on and build all types of residential and commercial buildings in Mississippi.
